
Dealing with the death of a loved one is never easy, but facing the grieving process in childhood can be even more confusing and difficult.
The STARS program helps kids, in a group setting, explore and better understand their losses so that they may help each other find strenth and joy through their grief journey.
What is “STARS”?

- Teaching ways to express their grief
- Assurance that they’re OK in what they’re feeling & thinking
- Respect as an individual with unique needs
- Safety in expressing their grief without fear or embarrassment.
Who can attend?
STARS is open to school age children and their caregivers who have experienced the death of a loved one.
When does it meet?
STARS meets twice each month from September through May.
Who leads the program?
STARS is an outreach of the St. Elizabeth Hospice Program and Linnemann Funeral Homes Continuing Care Departemnt. Volunteers are extensively trained to work with staff to facilitate groups.
What happens at each session?
In consideration to time limitations a catered meal is provided at each session. Later, participatns break into age-appropriate groups for activities and discussion abouth themes related to loss. Included in these sessions will be therapeutic use of art, play, music and videos.
What is the cost?
STARS is a FREE service for the Northern Kentucky community. Individuals, foundations, corporations, churches, and organizations support the program.
